Musical Tribute to the Summer of Love (1967). On
April 26, area musicians will gather at the Peint O Gwrw tavern
in Chatham to celebrate the music of 1967 - the Summer of Love.
The event is the latest in a series organized by Chatham resident
Pat Barnett-Mulligan, who described his group’s methodology:
“We pick a theme, decide on a set list, attempt to learn the
songs, and then we play out. None of us has the time to devote to
a regularly gigging band, so we do these one-off projects instead.”
In the past, they’ve put on shows featuring the music of Gram
Parsons, Bob Dylan, the Kinks, and the Rolling Stones. “The
Summer of Love is a good project because for many of us, it was
the first music we were exposed to.” 1967 and the summer of
love were rich times for music: the Beatles (Sgt. Pepper), the Rolling
Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson
Airplane, Van Morrison, and the Who were all on the scene and making
great music. When: April 26, 2008, 8:00 - 11:00 p.m. Where: Peint
O Gwrw Tavern 36 Main Street Chatham, New York Free - donations
welcome to benefit the Chatham Lions Club For info: Pat Barnett-Mulligan
